Photography Class #3: Available Light

After the farmers' market and the train tracks, we went up Capitol Street. It started to get dark, but our teacher had a strict "no flash" policy. He made us practice using the correct setting to photograph using available light. I think some of my photos turned out to be pretty good.

Photography Class #3: Farmers' Market

On the first cool (and dry) night we've had in some time, my photography class met in downtown Jackson. I took a lot of photos that I'd like to share, so I'm going to separate them into several posts.

Our first stop - the farmers' market, and nothing says "fall" like a farmers' market abundant with the colors of the season.

A Hard Day

Nora and I spent all morning in the doctor's office. We were there last week with a fever and (after a negative flu test) were told that it was probably a virus that would run its course in a couple of days, but to come back if her temp was still up this week. Last night, she woke up, and she almost felt too hot for me to touch! After some Tylenol and a cool rag, it went down, but after dropping Anne Parks off at school this morning, we went to see the doc.

Here's how our morning went:

- thermometer under the arm to check temperature - 99.9

- swab in each nostril for flu test - negative (after the 10 min. wait)

- finger pricked - high white blood cells count (after another wait)

- urine sample collected - catheter about to be put in when Nora gave a "sample" on her own (caught in a cup by a nurse with very quick hands, but not before soaking Nora's outfit.)

- sent next door for a chest x-ray (which was negative) where Nora was put in one of these (all I could think about was Baby Jessica ):
- needle in arm for blood culture (couldn't find her tiny vein)
- needle in hand (finally got blood)
- shot in leg today (and one tomorrow)- antibiotic to cover her until we get test results on Thursday.

Nora was a trooper and didn't even cry until the x-ray, but we were both worn out by the time we left the clinic. The doc says that if she were a little older we wouldn't have done all the tests, but they're always cautious when the patient is very young.

She's been sleeping a lot today and is still running a fever. The doctor thinks it's probably a bladder infection. I'm hoping the shot will start making her feel better soon and that we'll know a lot more on Thursday.

Photography Class #2: Outdoor Portraits

I had my second photography class on Monday night. I took Anne Parks along because we were going to be practicing outdoor portraits. She ended up being the model for our whole class. We had a great time, and Anne Parks did a great job.

I'm Going to an Aunt Again...and Again

Jennifer, Aaron, and Maggie recently let us know that they will welcome a new addition in late March.

And, I got this in card from Emily, Reed, and Smith in the mail a few weeks ago. We're in for a busy spring!

Okay, now that I've gotten that cheer stuck in your head for the rest of the day, I'll tell you about our weekend. We spent a hot and humid Saturday tailgating at Southern Miss. It was great fun, and I got some in practice with my new camera.
